***WE ARE CURRENTLY IN NEED OF YARD VOLUNTEERS!!
If interested please contact Resource Manager/Volunteer Coordinator Christine Bartell at 703-506-9191 or Christine_Bartell@TheAlternativeHouse.org
Alternative House has a very active volunteer program. In 2014, 1,574 volunteers provided almost 15,000 hours of community service. Using Fairfax County's valuation of volunteer hours, this equates to almost $300,000 of time and talent given to the young people served by Alternative House. Volunteers play so many roles at Alternative House, it would be impossible to list them all.
Our volunteer opportunities generally fall into two categories:
Volunteers who Interact Directly with Youth
These opportunities usually involve a formal application and interview process, two background checks which cost $40 total, a 6- to 12-month commitment and training (provided by Alternative House). Must be 18+.
If you are interested in this type of volunteer position at Alternative House, your first step is to attend one of our Open Door Information Sessions. During these sessions, you will learn about Alternative House and our programs, meet staff and tour our Emergency Shelter for Teenagers. Attendance is required for anyone interested in volunteering directly with our young people.
Corporate Group, Special Project and Event Volunteers
These opportunities generally involve no long-term commitment, little to no training, and no applications process.
If you are interested in volunteering with your company or would like to become a special project or event volunteer, please contact Resource Manager/Volunteer Coordinator Christine Bartell at 703.506.9191 or Christine_Bartell@TheAlternativeHouse.org.
