Our "Wish List"

We gratefully accept donations of the items listed below for our programs. Right now, we are beginning to take more furniture to accomodate our Rapid Rehousing program, which provides furnished rooms for responsible formerly-homeless youth.

If you would like to donate an item not listed below, such as furniture, electronics, televisions, computers, or large items, you must first contact our administrative office at 703.506.9191 during our work hours, Monday through Friday 8 am to 4 pm, to confirm that we can accept your donation.

Please bring donations to our Emergency Shelter for Teenagers, located at 2100 Gallows Road in Vienna.

We appreciate all who give to Alternative House. If you have items to donate to Alternative House, effective immediately the donation drop off hours are Monday through Friday from 8 am to 6 pm, and Saturdays & Sundays from 2 pm to 5 pm. If you cannot drop off during those times, you can set up a special donation drop off by calling our office at 703.506.9191. We thank you!

School Supplies

Beginning in July, we'll need lots of schools supplies, including 250 backpacks with supplies for all our various programs. If you can help with a drive for supplies or would like to donate yourself, here is the list of needed items:

If you are interested in donating any type of electronics to Alternative House, please contact our Administrative Office at 703-506-9191 or to see if we would be able to accept your donation at this time.  We do accept used cell phones. We are not able to accept donations of used television sets.

Gift Cards

Best Buy, Target, Wal-Mart, K-mart, movie passes, bed & bath stores, Toys and Babies ‘R Us, Staples, MicroCenter, Home Depot, grocery stores, restaurants, car washes, and house cleaning services.

Educational Activities

Calculators, educational games and DVDs, math & word flash cards, chapter books (2nd-6th grade). Basic school supplies are NOT needed at this time.

Recreational Activities

Video games (no violence and no M / Mature ratings) for Playstation 2, Nintendo Wii, Game Cube and Nintendo 64. Portable CD players, and-held electronic games, DVDs (PG-13 and below), Polaroid film, DVD players, sports balls & equipment, bike helmets, art and craft supplies, coloring books, pool sticks and chalk


Plastic storage bins and containers, bathroom and kitchen cleaners, standard household cleaners, Clorox cleaning wipes, sponges, liquid hand soap, vacuum cleaners and vacuum bags, brooms and mops, storage bins with lids, laundry detergent, hand truck, umbrellas, A-frame ladder, gardening tools, rakes, shovels, and snow shovels


Small kitchen tables, table top microwave, toaster oven, small one-person dish sets, cooking utensils, eating utensils, bowls, plates, drinking glasses, new oven mitts and dish towels, sponges, zip lock bags, garbage cans and tall garbage bags, dish soap, dishwasher detergent, high chairs, napkins, paper towels, disposable plates & cups
